Chapter 1
In chapter 1, I found that it was a good idea for Blake's death to happen because I think it's a very important event in the book. I also found it interesting why they pick Blake (the comedian) to die. I love the yellow smiley face pin with a drop of blood crossing the left eye, on Blake's blood bath. I love it because it's suspenseful. I believe this pin symbolizes something big in this graphic novel. Now we meet Rorschach, which I think he is a bad ass mysterious guy in a bad ass costume. He finds Blake's costume in the back wall of a secret closet. Rorschach visits all the masked adventurers, which I like because it lets us know the new characters. Like Daniel Dreiberg, Hollis Mason, Adrian Veidt, and Dr. Manhattan. Rorschach's journals were a great idea to understand the novel more it's like a summary of what happens in the chapter which helped me understand the book. Again the pin appears in the end of the novel except this time without any blood.

Chapter 2
In chapter 2, I found it interesting that the statue of the women appeared as if she was crying because of the rain drop in her eye. In this chapter we also meet Laurie's mother, who I really like because of her sense of humor and the way she looks at life in general. I feel as though she's a free spirit and easygoing. In this chapter we see a man who I believe is Rorschach holding a board saying the end is nigh, I also think it was interesting that he was in both chapters. I think it was sweet that at the funeral Dr. Manhattan, Daniel Dreiberg, and Adrian Veidt had a flashback to the times when they were with Blake which helped me a lot because it was easier to understand and get to know him better. For example we found out that he doesn't really care about life and how he tried to rape Laurie's mother. We learn that he is just overall reckless and careless. In a section of book that made me suspicious was when we saw the pin again in Daniel Dreiberg' s hand. There was a section in the book where Rorschach came into Moloch a home and accused him about Blake's death and more nonsense which I didn't understand. I also didn't understand the conversation between Moloch and Blake or what Blake said to Moloch. The last thing I liked about the chapter was that they showed the journal and the flashbacks from it.

Chapter 3
In chapter 3, I found that this chapter got more and more interesting ,yet confusing to me. For example there is another comic called Takes from the Black Freighter, but what I do know is that it had a connection with Dr. Manhattan's life. In this chapter we see Rorschach again but not in his usual costume ,but I know it's him because he asked for the newspaper, which he gave to Daniel Dreiberg. Laurie argues with Dr. Manhattan about their relationship. To be honest I feel bad for Jon, but I want Laurie to date Daniel Dreiberg. In the book where Laurie goes to visit Daniel Dreiberg. I feel like they're going to be more then "friends". Later, Dr. Manhattan goes to his interview and a reporter from the Nova express accused him, giving cancer to who is close to him. He teleported himself to an abandoned place and takes a photograph of a man (him) and a woman (his ex - girlfriend) at a carnival. Then he teleported himself to Mars. His in mars talking about something, I didn't understand, while Russia invades Afghanistan and a nuclear war all at the same time.

Chapter 4

Chapter 5
In chapter 5, I love the upside down R that is reflected in both ways in the rain puddle. It reminded me of a block test on Rorschach's mask. I also found it very interesting how the apartment logo light (the two upside down R mirror) turned on to a bloody red light color. Then when the logo light was off, it was turned to a normal blue color from reality. This creates pattern, emphasis, and balance. Well done. Later, A father was worried about the nuclear war, so he murdered his kids, before taking his own life. Which scared me in a sort of way. The comic in the comic shows up again, but more confusing. And the main character starts eating raw a seagull and a shark (ew). I just love Rorschach's journal because its something I understand and connect with in a way. After, someone tries to kill Veidt, but the attacker eventually bites into a suicide capsule and dies. Showing that Rorschach's theory is right so far. Later, the SWAT team are waiting outside Moloch's apartment to capture Rorschach. When they captured him and ripped off his mask. I was mad, when the ripped of his mask savagely. Also it was emotional to me, when Rorschach said " No! My face! Give it back! " Because to him that mask was another part of him, that I believe it was the part of him, he loved the most. It was the part of him that was free from fear, weakness, and lust.

Chapter 6
In chapter 6, we find out Rorschach`s real name is Walter Joseph Kovacs. Not a bad name at all. He is in prison. I have so much sympathy for him in this chapter because of his past life. We have a new character called Dr. Malcolm Long, a prison psychiatrist. He shows an ink blot to Rorschach. That looks like a butterfly to me, but to him it looks like a dog with its head split in half. I think he is really smart because he told the psychiatrist, it looks like “a pretty butterfly.” To show to Dr. Long, that he is getting better. After, Dr. Long shows him another ink blot, that I have no idea what it looked like. Rorschach had a flashback about when he was a child, when he walked in on his mother having sex. To me his mother was a cruel person. He says it looks like “Some nice flowers.” I got more sympathy for him. We find Rorschach was still a badass at 10 years old. To me Rorschach knows what life is. Later, in his next meeting with Dr. Long, he admits what he really on the ink blot. In 1975, there was a kidnapping. Rorschach captured the kidnapper. Then he burned his place down and looked at the flames. At this moment he went from Walter Kovacs to becoming Rorschach.

Chapter 7
In chapter 7, I find this chapter was very romantic, boring and useless. Dan explains his adventures stuff for fighting crime, which was cool stuff. Later in Dan’s apartment, Dan and Laurie are watching television. They kiss and then things happen. To be honest I don't care about this scene. Dan falls asleep and had a weird nightmare. I didn't understand his dream of him and Laurie. Why cant Dan put clothes on before he went to the basement, we are not trying to have another Jon. They decide to put on their old costumes and take Archie for a ride. While they’re in the sky, they see that a tenement is on fire. Then they saved the people in the tenement. At the end of the chapter, Dan has a plan to break Rorschach out of prison. I'm so happy because they are planning to break Rorschach out of prison.

Chapter 8
In chapter 8, Dan has a plan of breaking Rorschach out of prison to have information that could help them find out what's going on. The best plan I heard. Later, a detective stops by Dan’s apartment, knowing he is the Nite Owl. They act quickly to free Rorschach, which was a good move. Somewhere on a island, the missing writer Max Shea and the painter Hira Manish a near a scary creature, that Manish is sketching. This creature is being be transported somewhere. This doesn't sound good that all. Dan and Laurie go to free Rorschach and it's a success. Then they go back at Dan’s apartment, Dr. Manhattan appears at the apartment and takes Laurie to go back with him to Mars, that must be for a important reason to me. A gang decide to go attack Hollis Mason. I think they did this because they think he was the Nite Owl that helped Rorschach break out. Then they beat him to death.

Chapter 9
In chapter 9, Dr. Manhattan and Laurie are teleported to Mars. Then they go in his crystal palace, that is so beautiful. Jon seems to already know the conversation between them, somehow to me looks like he was a bit surprised when Laurie tells he about her and Dan. She has memory when she was five, her parents were arguing and when she was a teenager, her uncle was taking about the book he wrote "Under The Hood". But Sally doesn't want Laurie to read it. I wonder why she wont let Laurier read it. After we see a third flashback at the end of the first Crime busters meeting, she meets the Comedian for the first time. Sally looking so mad pulls her away from him and tells Laurie to never speak with him again. There was a sadness in Blake eye. I felt sympathy for him and Sally. Later, Laurie realized that Blake is her real father, she was full of rage and throws a bottle ,which destroyed the crystal palace. I would do the same thing it I was in her shoes. Dr. Manhattan finally decides to help her and they go back to earth. This chapter was a bit boring.

Chapter 10
In chapter 10, Rorschach and Dan go back to Rorschach’s apartment to pick up his spare costume and journal. Later, they interrogate Roy Chess, then they soon find out that it was the Pyramid Industries who paid someone to kill Veidt. I really don't like Veidt. After Rorschach and Dan go to Veidt’s office for more information. Dan hacks into the computer and finds out the Pyramid Industries is one of Veidt’s companies. Which meant that bastard Veidt is the mask killer. I knew he was evil, I just knew it. After they are on there way to Veidt's place, Rorschach makes one final journal entry about Veidt and what he did. He drops it at the mailbox, but to who? At the newspaper office, but puts it in the “crank file”, not being read first (please read it!!!). Later, Rorschach and Dan arrived in Antarctica , but Veidt knows they are coming.

Chapter 11
In chapter 11, Rorschach and Dan get closer to Veidt’s place. He pushes a button, that will make the horror being. Veidt talks about his life story, after his parents death, travels, his hero Alexander the Great, the start of his career as a hero to fight all evil. After his life story he killed his associates by poisoning them (so much for fighting all evil). When I saw the beautiful butterflies in the snow dying, I felt sadness and pain for them. Rorschach and Dan are inside, they ask him what he is trying to do. He explains that fighting crime will never get rid the world of evil. He said the Comedian was right when he said it was pointless make a crime busters when war is going on. This is very truth, who knew Blake was a smart man. So he had plan of a alien invasion to stop war, which at first sounded stupid to me. First, he gets rid of Dr. Manhattan, then makes his creature and teleported it on his island. Blake knew about Veidt's plan when he accidentally found his island with a alien on it, Blake was afraid. He only told Moloch in chapter 2, now I understand his conversation with Moloch. Then to make Rorschach’s theory seem right, Veidt made his own assassination attempt. Wow just wow. And now his plan just started “thirty-five minutes ago.”

Chapter 12
In chapter 12, It's Midnight, November 2, 1985. New York City has been turned to a bloody hell place by Veidt's huge alien. I never saw anything so messed up. Laurie goes crazy, I mean I would also go crazy. After Jon and Laurie teleport to the South Pole. Meanwhile, Veidt continues to talk about his plan to Rorschach and Dan. Veidt was really smart to come up with that plan. He explains he did that to save humanity from self destruction, but has Dr. Manhattan said "In the end, nothing ends, Adrian. Nothing ever ends." This quote from Dr. Manhattan is the truth, nothing ever ends. The event will force all humans to end wars and alien (talking about a plan). Later, world wide knows about the attack by a alien in New York City, Veidt shouts "I did it!" and convinces the others to keep it a secret from humanity. They all agree to keep the secret of who caused the alien to murder all these innocent people to keep peace. But not Rorschach because unlike the others he is smart and has a brain. Because he didn't agree Dr. Manhattan had to killed him, I was legit crying. After the horror Laurie and Dan changed their identities. Laurie tells her mom that she is not mad about Edward Blake being her real dad. This shows peace! In the end, the journal of Rorschach has appeared and is (possibly) picked up to be read by the newspaper. And I believe if they do read it and publish a new paper about the truth of the alien, things are going to get very ugly my friends. The ending couldn't be any better.

What do you think the woman in chapter 2 symbolizes?
ReplyDeleteSadness and fear.
